I’m that pottery guy.. I’ve been doing pottery for 15 years and I enjoy sharing that interest with others. I traveled up this way my senior year in high school and have been all over the country but I always return to the lovely mountains of WNC. I love plants and learning about the native species and traditional uses. I forage and hike often as well as making cool things on the wheel. I’m looking forward to getting back into the studio and seeing all your familiar faces and some new! See y’all soon!

I am a big outdoors person and love staying active. Some of the things I’m looking forward to at camp are kayaking, whitewater rafting, and building new bonds. I hope to bring enthusiasm and fun to the camp environment. I can’t wait to try new things and make memories that will last a lifetime. I’m so excited to meet all of the campers and be a role model to you!

From the city that never sleeps to Rockbrook. The change may be big but as a New Yorker, I am built for anything. I am super excited to be returning to camp for my second year. Last year, camp swooped in and took over my heart, and I just had to return. No one, in my opinion, can’t miss the amazing food and scenery Rockbrook has to offer. I can not wait to see everyone again and meet all the new campers. This summer will definitely be a blast and it is worth the while. Get ready for sports and games because this summer it will be great.

Gracie Sparks

Gracie Sparks

My full name is Elizabeth Grace Sparks, I go by Gracie at home and Sparky at camp. I was born and grew up in Trinity, NC. I am still growing up as I currently attend Uwharrie Charter Academy High. At the ripe age of seven years old I began riding horses. I haven’t looked back since and I currently ride two times a week. The horseback riding factor of Rockbrook is really what drew me here despite the fact that my brother and father both went to Camp Carolina ( the brother camp to Rockbrook ). Similarly to the horseback riding, I began attending day camps when I was seven as well, this eventually morphed into visiting various sleep away camps until I discovered Rockbrook. I never tuned back, now here I am writing my bio as a first year staff member of Rockbrook.
When I first came to camp I was very homesick, I struggled with anxiety especially as a child. I hope I can be a comfort to any homesick children as I will be able to relate to them. Even though my first year was full of homesickness, I have returned to camp ever since. I love the atmosphere here in Rockbrook. Being fully immersed in the rainforests of Brevard, lacking any technology, really brings out the true nature of anyone who visits Rockbrook. The camaraderie witnessed at Rockbrook is unlike any other place on the planet. I hope to be a positive, enthusiastic yet down to earth, mentor to all campers who I am blessed to interact with. As a camper I would always latch onto one staff member and look to them for anything I needed, I hope to be that staff member for at least one camper this summer.

Hi! My name is Carlie but my students/campers sometimes call me Coach Carlie. Before becoming a nurse I got to lead high school students on international trips and I even had a brief stint as a kindergarten teacher, but starting in the fall I’ll be a family nurse practitioner in the Tacoma area of Washington state. I’m so excited I get to spend another summer at Rockbrook! My favorite parts of being a nurse and camp counselor are the moments when I get to support young people who are discovering new things about themselves, their bodies, and the world.

Leo Nickerson

Leonard Nickerson

At an early age I developed a true passion for Tumbling which grew into a talent and skill that allowed me to win three all around gymnastics championships. When I saw that this was more than just a talent of mine, I acquired my coaching license under the United States Gymnastics Federation (USGF) which was the start of my career.

I had the privilege of traveling nationwide coaching and empowering athletes to accomplish their goals. In Texas, and now in North Carolina I continue to focus primarily on Advanced/Elite Tumbling and specialize with students who are struggling with mental blocks. I do this by empowering students through illustrations and instruction, while building their confidence and determination so as to overcome their fears. I focus on instruction and communication so that the student understands exactly what they are doing in their skills, this understanding allows them to overcome their fears and self-doubts so that their strength comes from within.

As a coach I want to empower our youth so that their strength and confidence can be regained especially after the effects the pandemic has had on their life’s for the past two years.

I’m excited to be joining the Rockbrook team as I can see that their philosophy and mission corresponds with what I specialize in when it comes to helping our athletes and campers to allow their determination to overpower their fears.
