Kayaking and Canoeing are two paddling activities offered at Rockbrook Camp. Girls first learn the basics paddling on our small lake and then move on to more adventurous trips on moving water.

Canoeing

Learn about paddling a tandem canoe! Girls practice their strokes and techniques for maneuvering their boat on the Rockbrook Lake.

Working together, the two paddlers steer and propel their boat to avoid obstacles and manage moving water.

Out on the local rivers, finding the line through rapids is an exciting thrill.

Kayaking

Kayaking is the ultimate whitewater adventure! Using a double-blade paddle and your very own solo boat, the rapids are fun and exciting.

This area of North Carolina is well-known for an amazing range of whitewater adventures.

Girls learn and progress through increasingly difficult runs, becoming more comfortable and confident paddling.

Whitewater paddling is a very popular summer adventure camp activity at Rockbrook. From it’s earliest days, Rockbrook camp has had a rich history on the rivers of western North Carolina. Offering instruction in both canoeing and kayaking, Rockbrook was one of the earliest summer camps paddling the area rivers.

The French Broad, which borders the camp property, provides beginner-level experience. The Green and Tuckaseegee Rivers offer rapids and skill-sharpening opportunities. As girls become confident in their river maneuvers, the Nantahala and the Chattooga Rivers offer greater challenges.
