An outdoor adventure activity gaining popularity at many kids camps is whitewater paddling. Since 1921 Rockbrook camp has had a rich history on the rivers of western NC. For over three decades Rockbrook has offered instruction in both canoeing and kayaking. Introduced to whitewater at camp, many girls enjoy a lifetime of paddling with friends and family.

Located on the French Broad River, Rockbrook was one of the first kids camps paddling the area rivers. The French Broad, only a short walk away, offers beginners experience. The Green and Tuckaseegee Rivers offer rapids and skill-sharpening opportunities. As girls become confident in their river maneuvers, the Nantahala and the Chatooga Rivers offer greater challenges. Our program is unique among kids camps in that all campers beginning with the middler age group are offered the opportunity to whitewater raft the Nantahala and spend the night at one of our own outposts near the Appalachian Trail. Rockbrook has one of the few private permits to operate on the Nantahala and maintains its own equipment and trains guides for theses popular trips.

Rockbrook has the qualifications necessary for success in a kids adventure camps paddling program. Our youth and teen adventure summer camps program is characterized by an emphasis on safety, qualified instructors, equipment appropriate for beginners, clear progressions and small instructor to student ratios. At co-ed kids camps, girls may be hesitant to try whitewater paddling due to the competitive nature of a traditionally male-dominated sport. In our non-competitive all-girls setting at Rockbrook, campers learn from counselors who demonstrate the grace and confidence of a truly skilled paddler.
