Hooray for the first day of activities! After a delicious breakfast of bacon, eggs and english muffins and several activity announcements, we were off on our first day of adventure! The weather could not have been more perfect for a day of fun in the sun. Down at the lake the canoers and kayakers were busy learning their strokes, while the swimmers enjoyed playing fun games and splashing in the inner tubes. The water slide was zipping with happy sliders squealing with delight. Our oldest campers on the Senior Line, the CA’s, started off their day on a hike in the National Forest to Big Rock. There they engaged in a lively discussion for potential themes for the big banquet party at the end of the session. A decision was reached, but since it is top secret, you will have to wait until July 19 to discover the theme. The Rockbrook gym was filled with lots of energy and playfulness, as Gymnastics class was in full swing. Girls warmed up with some stretching and started practicing handstands, cartwheels, backbends, and even working on the beam, bar, and mini-trampoline. Look out Olympics, here they come!
Just outside the gym, the archery range was full of excited campers, many of whom got to shoot a bow and arrow for the first time today. After learning the rules of the range, campers were well on their way to full targets. We’re looking forward to hearing all of the names announced in the Dining Hall throughout the session as girls achieve bullseyes!
After our sunny day of fun we all sat down together for a delicious dinner and a catch up on the days events. During the dinner announcements a rafting trip to the Nantahala was announced and all the participants were thrilled to hear their names called out. We will have more about rafting coming up soon! After dinner during our Twilight activity time all of the campers who were interested headed to the Hillside Lodge to create camp calendars. These are a great way to keep up with all of the fun of a day at camp. We sure had a lot of things to put on todays date!
