How to Make a Friendship Bracelet

Stripe Friendship Bracelet or Anklet

You will need:

  • Embroidery Floss - 4 strands, 36" long, 1 of each color
  • Masking Tape

1.) Gather all four strands together and knot them at the top leaving an inch and a half to 2 inches of string above the knot. Tape the end to a table securely.

2.) Take string #1 and do a friendship knot (directions below) around string #2. Repeat (i.e. Do another friendship knot with string #1 around string #2). You now have two friendship knots done with string #1 around string #2.

3.) Make two friendship knots with string #1 around string #3, and then do the same around string #4.

4.) Now the order of the strings changes. After you are finished making friendship knots with string one around strings #2, #3, & #4, string #1 becomes string #4, string #2 becomes string #1, string #3 becomes string #2, and string #4 becomes string #3.

5.) Repeat step 2-4 above. Continue until you get to the desired length. Knot the end and trim edges. Make sure you leave enough thread on the ends to be able to tie it to your wrist or ankle.

Basic Friendship Knot:

  • Hold string #2 firmly, place string #1 over string #2, then under, then through. While still holding string #2 firmly, pull up on string #1 until the knot is snugly in place.
