A couple of years ago, the American Camp Association conducted research on the potential benefits kids gain from attending summer camp. After surveying more than 5000 families, the research found camps providing significant personal resources for children and teens as they grappled with what it means to “grow up.” Some of these include growth in:
- Friendship Skills
- Environmental awareness
- Social Comfort
It’s important to remember that while camp is designed to be great fun and to be exciting, it’s also a place where girls are nurtured and encouraged to grow. After years of seeing girls attend Rockbrook, return each summer, and for some, return as a counselor, there are so many examples of camp being formative in this way. It’s amazing.
