When you ask people who attended a sleep away camp when they were a kid, you’ll find that they recall the experience, not only fondly, but also as one of the most important things they did as a child. A famous example here is Michael Eisner and his book about camp. There’s a lot [...]

It’s always great to see local kids attend camp. Even though they might be from the Brevard, Asheville or Hendersonville area, going to a sleepaway camp like Rockbrook is still great fun. Plus, when you think of “local” meaning within a 3 or so hour drive, we have A LOT of “local” kids [...]

The lake at Rockbrook is built between four really big rocks, gigantic bolders in fact. That’s really cool because these rocks make perfect places to lounge in the sun, catch a few rays, or just to leave your towel as you swim. Sunbathing during free swim is a pretty popular activity with our [...]

Here’s something cool— it’s the cover page from the 1925 camp catalog. Rockbrook’s first summer was in 1921, so this is very early in the history of the camp. You can see the founders listed right there on the bottom: Nancy Clarke Carrier and Henry Carrier, her husband. No doubt the photo is a canoeing [...]

There are definitely some challenging spots, with a cool “foot-switch” move about half way up, so we’ve [...]

Hey we’re kids, and we’re ready for camp! We want to play outdoors this summer, dress like a goof ball, and run around trying new activities with our friends. How much longer do we have to wait? Well, once school is out, it won’t be long. In fact, you can see [...]

Here’s a photo from one of our special evening events… it’s “auction!” Each cabin group gets a bunch of play “Rockbrook Money” to spend by bidding on mystery prizes. The prizes are mysterious because some are exciting like some cookies or other yummy snack, and others are crazier like jumping in the lake [...]

Another common question we hear is about the number of counselors at camp. At any girls residential camp like Rockbrook, it is important to consider the camper to counselor ratio. With 200 campers enrolled in each session, people are often surprised to hear that we have close to 100 employees during the summer, [...]

Occasionally we receive great emails and letters from Rockbrook alumni, short notes that remind us of some of the reasons RBC is such a popular summer camp. It’s always fun to hear what people remember, and with camp running every summer since 1921, you can imagine there are a lot of Rockbrook alumni!
Recently we [...]
