Children and Teens at Camp
Residential overnight summer camps also provide a unique opportunity for children to interact with others both older and younger than they. At a girls camp like Rockbrook, younger girls benefit from seeing older girls interact and do so many challenging things (“Wow, she can do it!”), and our teenage campers learn important leadership skills helping the younger girls accomplish things at camp (“Here, let me help you get started with that.”). With girls of all ages living together and doing so much together, it’s neat to see how everyone can grow from the experience.
Girls Camps Games

Most Sunday afternoons at camp, we have an all-camp activity, a game or event where all of the age groups get together and play. Here’s an example where we split everyone up into three different teams (pink, blue and green!) and had different relay races… egg and spoon, leap frog, fill the cup, three-legged race, dizzy lizzy, balloon-knees, and so many more. These are all great games that require some individual skill, but also plenty of cooperation among each team’s members. In the end, one team might “win,” but everyone has a fun time playing.

The lake at Rockbrook is built between four really big rocks, gigantic bolders in fact. That’s really cool because these rocks make perfect places to lounge in the sun, catch a few rays, or just to leave your towel as you swim. Sunbathing during free swim is a pretty popular activity with our older girls (seniors). Hidden in the woods, the Rockbrook Camp lake is our own unique oasis in the summer.

Another great quote from a Rockbrook alumna:
My favorite thing is returning year after year and spotting a friend from the previous year and knowing that even though you didn’t see each other since last summer… you instantly had a best friend for the next couple of weeks.
Yep, making these kinds of friends is probably the coolest part of coming to camp.
Dance Summer Camp
One of the activities at camp that’s always popular is dance. It’s held in one of the historic stone lodges we’ve outfitted with mirrors on one end. In addition to playing games, we teach a wide range of dance genres from Jazz to Pop, Hip-hop and different forms of ballroom dancing. Last year, Kalin taught traditional Irish Folk Dancing too. Then at the end of each session, the campers put on a dance show for the whole camp. It’s casual and fun… and a great way to learn a few new moves.
All Girl Summer Camp

Since 1921, Rockbrook has been an all girl summer camp in the mountains of North Carolina. It’s been a place where girls ages 6-16 can challenge themselves and forget about “what the guys might think,” relax and get to know each other in a supportive and noncompetitive environment. There’s just something about there being all girls that makes it the kind of place where you find incredible friends. Sure, it’s tons of fun and full of action, but it’s also really special when you become a part of it.
