Kids Talk Like a Pirate
Arrr! It’s International Talk Like A Pirate Day!
It’s true. There’s a big following of folks excited about all things pirate. Well blow me down, matey! Of course pirate day is one of our favorite silly activities at camp. It’s a great chance for kids to dress up like a pirate, break out that pirate voice, and sing a pirate song. Here’s a photo of some counselors really getting into the spirit of it all.
Want to learn more about Talk like a Pirate Day? Visit the official website. Here’s some info especially for kids and teens too. There’s more pirate stuff than you probably want to know! Aye Aye Captain.
1-Week Summer Camp Session!
Our final camp session of the summer has opened and we’re very excited to have all of the campers arrive. This session is unusual because we’ve got mostly new campers and it lasts for just one week. Everyone is so enthusiastic, it’s going to be great fun to introduce Rockbrook to these girls, and with everything we’ve got planned, it’s no doubt going to be a great session.
Birthday Fun at Rockbrook
Many girls are lucky enough to celebrate their birthday at Rockbrook, but last night, everyone got to be the birthday girl! On Birthday Night, campers and counselors sit at the same table as those who share their month of birth. For every month there is a deliciously decorated cake to feast upon, complete with candy and sprinkles. So much cake, yum!
Tonight is the dance with the boys from Camp Carolina. Nothing quite compares to the reaction from the campers when the much-anticipated dance is announced at dinner. All week long my campers have been trying to figure out when it will be, so I know they will have a blast tonight!
Cabin Day at Rockbrook

It’s Wednesday at Rockbrook, and on Wednesdays, we do things a little differently. During the middle of the week we have a special day appropriately titled “Cabin Day,” for it is a time set aside to spend with your own cabin. Today, for example, middler cabins four and seven will be participating in an extreme shaving cream battle down at the Landsports Field. Other ideas for Cabin Day include hiking to Rockbrook Falls, decorating cupcakes, having a “spa day”, or making a plaque for your cabin. Last week, my cabin played soccer and set up an obstacle course. I always look forward to Wednesday because you get to be creative and come up with your own plan. Plus, it is a great opportunity to bond with your campers and co-counselor!
P.S. That’s some seniors on their cabin day trip— going down Sliding Rock!
Opening Day for Second Session Camp 2007
Today is the first day of our second session. With so many people who signed up early for it, and with the session completely full, it’s going to be so great to finally have everyone together, both returning campers and new campers alike. It’s always very exciting to start a new session. The counselors are just buzzing about in anticipation!
If you’re on your way, we can’t wait to see you!
Summer Camp Counselor

We found this great picture of Ashleigh from last summer, and thought we’d pass it on. Also, we’re excited to let you know that she’ll be back this summer to work again as a counselor on the outdoor adventure staff. This looks like one of those crazy “self portraits” (holding the camera with one hand) that she took at the top of the Castle Rock climbs at camp. Awesome!
Children Summer Camp Swimming
Ready for a dip in the Rockbrook Camp lake? It’s always “refreshing”
, which is our way of saying, “chilly, chilly, chilly.” This is because the lake is fed by a true mountain stream that runs down Rockbrook Falls nearby. Jumping in on a hot summer day feels just great.
Ready for that swim now? We sure are! Here are Sarah and Katie, two of our lifeguards from last summer, ready to keep a close eye and lend a hand if you need it.

It’s not too early to think about next summer! In fact, we’re starting to hire all of our summer camp staff for the coming season— cabin counselors, outdoor trip leaders, horseback riding instructors, even folks to join to kitchen crew. Most positions are open, so head on over to the RBC camp staff page and fill out the form to receive an application packet in the mail.
Hey, we’re hiring! ![]()
