Playing tennis at summer camp is one of those classic outdoor sports kids have played for years at Rockbrook. It might be signing up for the tennis activity, playing a quick game with a friend before dinner, or playing in the tennis tournament each session.

Coming to a tennis camp means working on fundamental skills, learning to improve forehand, backhand and overhand shots, and getting the serve consistent. Most of all, at Rockbrook, it means having fun with your friends on the court.

Forehand! Backhand! Lob! Volley! Groundstroke! Cross-court! Serve! It’s all tennis.
Girls Camp plays tennis
And at camp there’s plenty of chances to play tennis. Campers can sign up for tennis as one of their scheduled activities, which gives them about an hour on the courts. They can grab a friend and hit a few balls around during their free time before lunch or dinner. They can even get in a quick game after dinner during the “Twilight” time before evening program. And finally, girls can look forward to the end-of-session tennis tournament with Camp Carolina, a long tradition at Rockbrook.

With all this tennis going on at camp, Rockbrook girls can really learn a lot. They can build their tennis skills and become much better players if they want. But at Rockbrook, no matter what we do, the most important part is to have fun doing it! That’s why tennis can be pretty silly. It can turn into some kind of relay game, a trick shot contest, or even a new dance move. No pressure. No intense competition. No worries about whose the “best.” It’s a girls tennis camp dedicated to having fun, even when that means mostly playing around. Yes it’s all tennis, and it’s all fun.

Teen Sleep Away Camp Tennis

Tennis at camp? Of course! In fact, it seems like the tennis courts are always busy at Rockbrook because, as a teen sleepaway camp, there are so many chances to play throughout the day. You can sign up for the camp tennis activity and have a lesson, get together with a friend and head down to the courts during the free time before lunch and/or dinner, or even get a bunch of teens together and play after dinner during the “twilight” free time. That’s our favorite time to play… the cool evening air, the colorful setting sun, the ease and fun of it all.  With a session at sleepaway camp, you sure can play a lot of tennis!

Tennis player at summer camp
Tennis always seems to be a popular sports activity at Rockbrook. Sure there are lessons and chances to have an instructor teach you more about how to be a better tennis player. Sure we have little tournaments (both singles and doubles) now and then. We can always improve our tennis skills like that. But we also play plenty of games, activities that while involving tennis are designed to be as fun (and sometimes silly) as possible.

One is called “Around the World” and it involves a group of children dividing and lining up on opposite baselines.  A child from one side hits to the other side and after hitting, runs and gets in line on the other side.  It’s kind of a rotation of players as everyone runs to the right around the court.  The goal is to see how many people in a row can hit good shots back.  You can imagine; it’s lots of action and lots of fun!

Sports Tennis Camp

Tennis is one of the traditional sports we play at Rockbrook. It’s another summer camp activity that just fits perfectly. When you get out on a clay court surrounded by big trees (rather than a big slab of asphalt out in the wide open), get to goof around with your friends, and probably learn a little about playing better, it’s really great. Hey, I’ll meet you during free time before dinner and we’ll hit a few!

Tennis Summer Camp Activity

Tennis is another one of the many (more than 25!) activities at Rockbrook Camp. It’s always cool to get out on our traditional green clay courts (sometimes referred to as a “rubico” surface) and practice your skills or play a quick game. When you select tennis as one of your camp activities, you’ll definitely learn something new, play a lot, and if you want, even join our camp tennis tournament.

Hey! It’s your turn to serve!
